Service

Our Philosophy:

As a Christ-centered community, one of the best ways to model Christ for our children is through service. We also grow stronger in friendship and faith when we work together for the benefit of our children, parish, school, and community as a whole. Throughout the year, there are many events, activities, and clubs whose success depends on the help of SIJ parents and families.

Guidelines:

Each school family is asked to give 25 or more service hours throughout the year. Of these hours, fifteen (15) should be in service to the school and ten (10) to the parish. For families of part-time students, the guidelines are as follows:  Fifteen (15) hours total, with ten (10) in service to the school and five (5) to the parish. Should a family decide they are not able to make a commitment of their time to the school/parish, they may elect to pay $500 ($300 for part-time families) in lieu of the 25 service hours.  That amount may be paid at registration or with the normal tuition installments.  If a family completes only a portion of the necessary hours, the remaining hours will be charged at $20/hour.

Volunteers must always check in and out according to the instructions of the activity’s coordinator.  Upon the conclusion of the activity, parents will need to log into their FACTS account to record their service hours.  Service hours will be checked monthly and credit will be given.  Any questions regarding service hours can be directed to the school office at [email protected]m or (586) 771-3525.

A family may also make a donation of items and/or professional services that are of general benefit to the school to satisfy volunteer hours. If a parent’s business or profession is one that could provide a service to the school that would normally have to be paid for, please consider donating that product or service in fulfillment of parent service hours (e.g. technology services, advertising/marketing services, landscaping, construction projects, donations of supplies). Please contact the school to qualify your donation in advance.

Our hope is that each family member most enjoyably uses his or her God-given talents and resources to help SIJ thrive. Working together with joy and faith, we can strengthen our community as a light to our children and to all.
