As a Christ-centered community, one of the best ways to model Christ for our children is through service. We also grow stronger in friendship and faith when we work together for the benefit of our children, parish, school, and community as a whole. Throughout the year, there are many events, activities, and clubs whose success depends on the help of SIJ parents and families.
Each school family is asked to give 25 or more service hours throughout the year, or 15 hours for families of part-time students. Four (4) of these hours must be committed to the annual Summerfest. All service hours are due by May 1st of each school year. Any hours beyond 25 that are served after April 1st may count for the following school year.
Should a family decide they are not able to make a commitment of their time to the school/parish, they may elect to pay $500 ($300 for part-time families) in lieu of the 25 service hours. If a family completes only a portion of the necessary hours, the remaining hours will be charged at $20/hour.
Service hour fees are added to your account PRIOR to the start of the school year. Full time families will see a charge of $500 ($20 x 25 hours) and part time families will see a charge of $300 ($20 x 15 hours) in their FACTS Management Account. As hours are served and reported by the activity’s coordinator, they will be subtracted from your account. If hours remain unserved after May 1st, the charge will remain on your account.
A family may also make a donation of items and/or professional services that are of general benefit to the school to satisfy volunteer hours. If a parent’s business or profession is one that could provide a service to the school that would normally have to be paid for, please consider donating that product or service in fulfillment of parent service hours (e.g. technology services, advertising/marketing services, landscaping, construction projects, donations of supplies). Please contact the Community Advocacy Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org to qualify your donation in advance.
Our hope is that each family member most enjoyably uses his or her God-given talents and resources to help SIJ thrive. Working together with joy and faith, we can strengthen our community as a light to our children and to all.
