Forensic speaking is any kind of public address. In the Michigan Interscholastic forensics Association www.themifa.org, which our team is a member of, it is split into two categories: public address and interpretation. In public address students write a speech in which they inform, sell something to, or entertain the audience and deliver in with the aid of visuals. Interpretation is most simply performing without a stage, costumes, or props. Students find a selection from a play or book and interpret it using their voices, facial expressions and body movement. There are many benefits to forensic speaking, the most important being that students gain the ability to speak in front of people with a sense of comfort. Our forensics team is open to any middle school student (grades 6-8) and is run by coach Christine Sagert. Anyone interested can contact her at sagertteach@yahoo.com or by calling the school at 586-771-3525.
