Spiritual Life at SIJ

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, have administered and staffed St. Isaac Jogues Catholic School since 2014.  In 2023, the religious community, Pro Ecclesia Sancta came to serve at St. Isaac Jogues Parish and School, when Fr. Joe Barron, PES, was assigned as the priest with primary responsibility for St. Isaac's.

At St. Isaac Jogues, where Christ is Our Teacher, the center of our spiritual life is found in the sacraments of the Church.  We are blessed to have Mass for the whole school twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Each First Friday of the month, we have all-day Eucharistic Adoration, and each class has an opportunity to spend time in prayer with Jesus, the King.  Additionally, Fr. Joe makes himself available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this time of Adoration.

Daily, the entire school unites in prayer several times, so that we begin, continue, and end our school day by strengthening our relationship with God.  During the liturgical seasons of Lent and Advent, the students participate in classroom and school-wide activities to deepen their understanding and appreciation of these special liturgical times.  Solemnities and feast days are celebrated with much joy, and all of our important activities incorporate prayers.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that "man is by nature and vocation a religious being.  Coming from God, going toward God, man lives a fully human life only if he freely lives by his bond with God" (CCC 44).  This idea underpins the spiritual life of our school, as we seek to support our students in developing this bond with God, so that they may live fully human and free lives.
